Physiotherapy and Clinical Pilates in SW Calgary

Services

  • Physiotherapy

One-on-one treatment using modalities, hands on treatment, Functional Dry Needling, and exercise prescription to meet your goals, recover from injury, and get back to doing the things you love!

  • Clinical Pilates

Physiotherapy with a twist! One-on-one movement sessions using Pilates equipment with exercises tailored to your individual rehabilitation goals. Billable under physiotherapy benefits, these sessions are completed under the guidance of your physiotherapist. These sessions are available at Encompass Sports Therapy SW, however Mary uses Pilates knowledge throughout her practice at all locations.

  • Functional Dry Needling

Utilizing fine acupucture needles, Functional Dry Needling is a technique employed to help reduce the negative effects of muscular trigger points, as well as enhance muscular performance and recovery! The needles are inserted through the skin to target tight muscle spots and provide a release, or can be connected to a light electrical current. This treatment can provide pain relief, reduced swelling, or improved muscular responses, but it isn’t for the faint of heart! Talk with Mary to see if Dry Needling is appropriate for your treatment needs.

About Vertical Health

Mary Mitton is a registered Physiotherapist in the province of Alberta, who graduated from the MScPT program at the University of Alberta in 2016. She also holds a Specialized BSc in Psychology.

Growing up in Canmore, AB, Mary developed a love for sport, regularly playing whatever was in season (volleyball was her favourite!). She also competed in Highland dancing, and learned the basics of alpine skiing. She can now regularly be found on the ski hill in the winters, and running or mountain biking in the summer. She enjoys travel, and some of her favourite trips include skiing in Japan (so nice, she went twice), honeymooning in Scotland, and trips to the West Coast to visit family and friends.

She holds additional training in Functional Dry Needling, Clinical Pilates, Mulligan Mobilization, and has recently completed her coursework allowing her to provide diagnostic imaging to patients, where clinically appropriate.

In an effort to continue to improve her clinical knowledge base and better help her patients, she tries to take continuing education courses every year. Upcoming learning ventures include completing a diploma in Functional Dry Needling, and Advanced Clinical Pilates training in the Fall of 2023.

Mary prides herself on patient centred care, and providing evidence based and personalized treatment for all her patients.
